Eccentricity, transformation, and true happiness

Simon Doonan says that haute fashion is ultra boring. I say, “So is wearing/doing what everyone else is wearing/doing!

Doonan’s book on “Eccentric Glamour” urges girls to just say no to boobs, botox and bleached hair. It is the call for ALL women to dress (and can we extend that to conducting themselves, as well?) with a certain air of whimsy and unpredictable-ness. Being run-of-the-mill chic is boring! (This is why I’ve been giving you inspiration – read: rocker chic posts!)

For further reading, click! Doonan’s got your back on adopting bohemian chic-ness, the Hollywood and Euroglam Gypsy and Miss Piggy’s fabulousity.

I want to point out, on that note, MissElle’s post on the hobo-chic movement.
Miss Elle says,

“I also am a loyal subscriber to Lookbook.nu, a simple site that allows its
(invitation-only) users to upload their outfits daily in a feed that sometimes
produces 400 new “posts” per day. I am often inspired by many of the outfits I
see on the site, but recently I have a complaint: They’re all starting to look
the same.”

If you’re going to adapt an eccentric look, remember this: if your eccentric look (hobo/streetwalker/whathaveyou) is the same as everyone else’s eccentric look, you’re going to become generic. There’s no other way to put it nicely. Remember that when expressing your goofy/zany/sultry/nerdy alter-egos through your sartorial choices – if everybody else is doing it, it’s no longer eccentric because:

In the same spirit, Gala’s transformation challenge is coming up… and I’m challenging you, dear readers, to break the mold! Get funky, creative and out of the box.

If you’ve not started making headway towards your resolutions, now is a good time to start. Today is the Chinese New Year – 2009 is the year of the Ox – and as the beauties over at TheCoveted have the whole scoop.

For those of you who follow astrology: Since Mercury is going to slide back out of retrograde on the first, now is a good time to reflect on your positive transformation – whether you’re going to adopt some eccentric glamor into your life, start a new project, or simply usher in the Year of the Ox (and your good fortune!). Now is definitely the time to expand your horizons – to take a step-by-step approach to realizing your dreams and goals. It’s time to see the big picture and find joy!
