I’ve always been fascinated by the desert that surrounds the Nile, so it’s no small surprise that I’d LOVE the Egypt-inspired designs that came out for S/S 09. See this little number:
(Photo from myallaboutbeauty.com)Ika Butoni did an amazing collection for Hong Kong Fashion Week called “Desert Road to Alexandria” – it is gorgeous and amazing. As MissElle at Broke and Beautiful noted, the prints are subdued and lovely without being garish.

(Photo from Daylife.com)How do YOU capture the spirit of the Nile as you rifle through your wardrobe? Opt for billowy linen trousers and desert or brocade print tops. Work in gold, turquoise and deep blue lapis colors. Wear plain neutrals and bright, vibrant jewelery. The Egyptians were slow to dye their fabrics, but color was everywhere in their accessories and adornments. Try a maxi dress or a brocade print skirt like this:

Other ideas: Get a Cleopatra-inspired fringe. Wear big metal cuffs. Buy a little palm plant to decorate your abode. Find clothing pieces with braiding, tassles, leather detail, embroidery or other desert-tribal inspired embellishments. Use braiding, or weave ribbon into your hair.
Personally, it’s getting warmer and I think I’ll be wearing some flowing Egypt-inspired prints (with leggings or tights underneath) and of course, pieces of lapis jewelery. I think I need those obelisk earrings – don’t you? I may need a maxi dress (for warmer weather), some wrap/tie sandals, and I’ll definitely be wearing neutrals with bright jewelery. What do you think??
