Mineral Foundation – pricey, but worth it.

I’ve gone through a number of different tactics when it comes to my skin.  Recently, I pointed out the benefits of yogurt, and gave a run down on product.  I love my skin, don’t get me wrong, but it is a DIFFICULT beast to tame.  I’m fair and freckled – therefore, my skin is easily angered by anything.  Did you know fair skinned, freckled people are doomed to uneven skin tone?

I’ve been using Bare Minerals for some time now.  It’s good stuff, generally, though I feel like it doesn’t last as long as it should from time to time.  Sometimes I feel like it goes on cakey, like the powder is thick or heavy – or maybe I’ve just been heavy handed that morning.  Sometimes I feel like it’s too shiny, or not matte enough for my tastes.  It’s also a pain to take anywhere with me – I have to worry about my brushes, or the powder gets stuck to the cap and makes a mess.

After a bit of time spent debating whether or not to find a little compact to carry in my bag, Scarlet introduced me to a better mineral foundation alternative: Youngblood.

I wanted something pressed and Youngblood offers just that in a mineral and rice powder foundation that I’ve come to love:

I will admit, I was skeptical.  Every pressed powder I’ve tried looks ultra powdery, or doesn’t offer enough coverage.  If it’s not that, my skin will become irritated, or angry and I’ll be sad I even used the product.  I also balked at the price.  $41 for a foundation!?!?  They’ve got to be crazy!

I went to BeautyWorks and looked at the selection.  I decided I’d try the Youngblood because Scarlet says it’s amazing.  She also told me BeautyWorks featured the brand, and they had a special where they were giving a discount for donating to a good cause, so I went for it.  Donate to a cause, get a fantastic foundation at a discount – Good enough for me.

Makeup Alley didn’t have reviews for this product specifically, but the girls there did give Youngblood – Ultimate Concealera 4 out of 5 – and that concealer comes in at a mere $27.

I’m fairly pleased with what I have.  I’ve been using this foundation as a touch-up to my normal routine (or sometimes by itself when I don’t have a chance to slap on any makeup before leaving the house).  It’s light, but the sponge sometimes doesn’t work as well as I want.  I think I’ll have to get a brush for it.

Has anybody else tried Youngblood mineral foundations?  Do you like it?  What works well for your skin?? I’d love to hear your suggestions!!

I have not tried Youngblood. Normally I’m a mascara and eye shadow let’s go kind of girl. My skin’s pretty even. On nights out or days when I get up in time I use MAC foundation which I love and drugstore NYC powder which is ok, but obviously not great.

  2. I have rosacea, so my skin gets irritated easily too. I use Clinique’s Moisture Tint (in fair): it keeps my face looking even and smooth without getting cakey or flakey. As far as a powder, though, I haven’t found anything that works well for me. My skin is so tricky that I have pretty much given up. Let me know if Youngblood continues to do the trick!

@Freya – Which MAC are you using?? I struggle to find things that don’t contain talc – since the talc gets into pores and is hard to get rid of/wash off.

@Jennifer Nicole – I’ll let you know how it works. If you like the creamier stuff, you might test their ultimate concealer. It seems to not clog my pores which makes my skin happy.

Yup, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish pressed powder all the way. Provides great coverage, lightweight, and it is good for your skin. Also, when having bad skin days, you can get your powder brush wet, then use the powder, provides excellent coverage. I also love the MAC Studio Mist Foundation. Its a spray on!! but only select stores even carry it, if not sold out. Its like airbrush foundation! Its what I use for photoshoots or if i gotta look really really good! lol Those are my two favs, and they’re not too expensive! =)

Thanks!! That’s so good to know, since I struggle with foundations. I hear a lot of ladies like Mac – in particular the Studio Tech is one I’ve heard a LOT about. Do you know if they’ve got the talc in them? I find the talc-less formulas are better for my skin.
