Okay, so now I’m SHAMELESSLY regurgitating a little bit of what I found on the internet today, but reading this really resonated (PUN!). I’ll tell you why in a minute…
Sometimes I think people put too much mysticism into this “law of attraction” stuff. It’s not a mystical miracle that something should come to you if you open up your mind and your heart and your entire being to it’s occurrence. When you are ready for something to happen there’s a greater chance that you will recognize an opportunity, see it start to grow, and grab hold before that chance flowers and dies.
I talked about this phenomenon a little in my post about the math and science of happiness. You remember that? That was the post where I mentioned that statistically, good things WILL come to you and you just have to be ready for them. This author has expanded that idea in the sense that, for all that to work, you must work towards being truly happy. That happiness will open up your mind to new things. In short, happiness begets acceptance of new experiences and ideas, which leads to being fully aware of the good things around you.
Acceptance is the place to start in being happy, too; it’s cyclical and self-referential. Accepting the way life is and all the amazing things you do have brings a mindset of peace and happiness – that happiness opens up your mind. Zen Habits made a great point about this:
The root of the unhappiness isn’t necessarily that we want things to be different, however: it’s that we decided we didn’t like it in the first place. We’ve judged it as bad, rather than saying, “It’s not bad or good, it just is.”
