Tattoo

For the longest time I’ve been debating my second tattoo.  I love my first, especially because I have an artist-friend who did it for me.  It was an epic moment where I felt my life shift into a completely new gear and so the event was significant in my personal growth.

I’ve been lusting after more but have had the hardest time trying to decide what to get.  However, I’ve gone and come back and now there are stories behind the newest tattoos….

(Click here to see the image – I pulled it because someone wanted to use my font/the quote for their tattoo.)

This is a quote from Saint Exupéry’s  Le Petit Prince – an amazing book, which if you haven’t read, you should.  It says: “On ne voit bien q’avec le coeur” which means we only see well with our hearts…. (the essential is invisible to the eye).  Saint Exupéry’s quote is so true – the best view of the world comes not from our eyes, but our hearts.

This sort of signifies the amazing power of our brains… Scarlet and I were having a conversation about just how amazing women are, and how wonderful it is to feel so enlightened in a time when so many feel so lost.  There’s no situation your willpower and brainpower can’t overcome and this little sign signifies that truth – at least to us.  The bolt comes from the idea that our brains generate electric signals that make us tick.

I think the acquiring of tattoos – for me – will always be about getting something I believe in and will be an extension of my personal growth.  Have you got tats??  What was your inspiration?  Can I see em!??

Ahh, the bird is adorable! Are the other pictures examples of the tattoos that were drawn on you? Because that last picture looks a lot like you…

I have three tatts – you can see ‘em here on my flickr. I want SO many more – I’m planning on eventually having a back piece, as well as 3/4 sleeves on both arms, among possible others. The back piece will be a combination of literary influences (His Dark Materials trilogy, a few other things I haven’t totally nailed down yet) + honoring my ancestry (w/Odin’s ravens, Huginn and Muninn). On one arm I want a Coraline half-sleeve and a Buffy quote below it on my forearm, I’m not absolutely 100% for sure what I want on the other arm, but it will probably involve at least one flapper and maybe a can-can dancer with song lyrics. Like I said, there are a few random things here and there that I want, but that’s most of ‘em!

Definitely let us know when you get your new tattoo + post pictures of it :D

Thank you! Everything I do seems to be slightly bird-themed, eh?? Haha

Oh I misunderstood – I thought you were thinking about getting the second and third ones! Whoops. I also forgot to mention there will probably be a suffagette or two in with the flapper and cancan dancer :)

  6. No tats here, but I really like the saying you got on your arm. I like when people have actual significance behind their work, rather than just something that looks cool. Sometimes the cool look really does look cool though! :)

I love the petit prince tatt, mostly because i am planning the exact same tattoo for for my second tattoo but on my rib cage right under my boob (kinda where my bra would hit) anyways i LOVE the font of yours and i am currently now trying to decide on my font, do you by any chance know the name of the font you used?? thanks!

  8. Birdie says:

Riss… I don’t know the font, but I encourage you to look for your own font/design style, because it’s sort of… bad form to appropriate someone’s tattoo style/font style. It’s much more meaningful if you create it for yourself. Thanks for your understanding!
