The Art of Self Love

It’s not enough to be mere amazing mortals, we continually have to be something more. We have to be brighter, we have to be bigger. We must be smarter and faster. We must be genius and impress others with our sense of style. We must be the famed writers, the acclaimed artists, and the stunning photographers.

Yet, all those things are nothing – they are completely unattainable – without the realization that we are sufficient in our current roles.

We can always aspire to something high and great, yet, we must be able to love ourselves, right here, right now, in this moment, as we truly are.

The first step towards becoming great is the art of self love – the act of seeing yourself as that to-be star, and the act of seeing the magnificence and importance of your current position. Without the here and now, in this very moment, you will never get there. To discard the importance of now, or to discard the importance of yourself is to discard the importance of the education and experience that has gotten you to this point, and will continue to grow as you grow to new heights.

The art of self love is to first, accept who you are. Write it out: “I am these specific things…”. Then you must accept your place – only from there can you move forward. Realize that what you have now is sufficient to set your stars in motion; to put you where you need to be. Realizing your current position may mean a simple shift in your point of view. Where you see yourself at a boring desk job, you are really gaining the knowledge and skills to move forward. A simple juxtaposition of your view makes it easier to recognize the possibilities – possibilities which are boundless.

i check back every so often, and came on a day when i totally needed this. thank you! sometimes shutting up the inner voice who is the worst critic can be hard, but realizing you like yourself and like who you are is the easiest way to shut it up. thanks for this… today i will go forward and conquer!

No, thank YOU, Kam! Your photos are beautiful. And I’m glad to have you, here at my little spot on the internet.

  5. Jay – I had the same thought! I JUST say another post about orgasms, so my brain is in that…place I guess, haha.

Birdie, I really resonate with this post. It’s so important to be honest with yourself about who you are (not who you’re trying to be) and love that person wholly, even if you’re trying to change the way you do or react to things. If we don’t have a place of acceptance to start from, how can we move forward?

Thank you, Jen. Your thoughts on the matter echoed my sentiments, exactly!
