Things I love (this) Thursday

Thursday… Almost the end of the week… A great time to write a TiLT list.

<3 Nubby Twiglet wrote this post about choosing blogging Masterminds. She asks you to think about the bloggers you surround yourself, who are on your same blogging brainwave. As Wayne Campbell would say, “ZANG!”

<3 – Twitter hilarity. – “I like that tweet independent of the conversation “Even underthings drive me nuts!”" – Straight up Pirate style…

<3 – The fact that it’s slowly getting lighter, earlier in the morning. December IS the darkest month and (though I love December) that can get to be a drag after awhile. I’ve noticed on my way to work, though, that it’s not nearly as dark as it used to be. I can’t wait for spring – I’m anticipating bright sun and warm days. I have this crazy print wrap skirt that I got for Christmas that I’ll be able to wear as soon as it stops being so damn cold!

<3 – Impromptu and completely successful shopping excursions. Last weekend I went out with Scarlet and we hit the Fremont Sunday Market to buy typewriter keys. I found the keys I wanted and we walked the rest of the market. We ended up at a jewelery booth where we bought polished stone rings – I scored a drop-shaped Lapis ring. We then decided to pop into H&M. I’ve been told I’ll LOVE H&M, and I feel like I don’t love it nearly as much as I should. I also balk at cheaper quality, but if you look closely at how the garment is constructed, you can tell if the manufacturing was shabby (or if it’ll last ages).

A note on inspecting garments for quality: I check to see if the stitching is straight, or if there are loose strings hanging out of the garment anywhere – this is usually the first indication of shoddy workmanship. Look for a little extra fabric on the inside of the seams, because if so, the stitches are less likely to fray and tear under stress. Check the buttons as well, to make sure they’re well attached. I then check to see that the cut of the item goes with the grain of the fabric (you can tell if a garment is supposed to be cut with the grain) – if you don’t do this, and you throw a poorly cut garment in the washer, the seams will twist, and your top/bottom/dress/whatever will look cheap, because you’ve got seams running from your armpit to your navel. If you’re buying something with a pattern or print, make sure the pattern matches up at the seams and across any buttons/zippers/snaps.

Now, back to the H&M thing – so I’ve noticed that SOME of their apparel does have threads hanging out of the seams, or has buttons that aren’t well sewn on… BUT I did happen to find a cowl-neck top that I can wear in Vegas, and a long tee night-dress that I will pair with a slip and tights, and wear as a real dress. Maybe I will wear that combo in Vegas as well!

<3 – Speaking of which, I’m stoked for VEGAS! It’s not a place I’d go every weekend… It’s expensive, it’s dirty and grungy, but there’s something about the lights, and the way everyone is always awake, and seeing the Vegas crowd that really gets me pumped. I love smoking and playing penny-slots in the morning with a huge cup of coffee. I love wandering around the New York and looking at all the “buildings” or walking through the Forum Shops. I love Bloody Marys at the Mirage, decor at the Bellagio and dinner at Mon Amie Gabi. I love walking the strip and laughing at drunk people carrying the ridiculous giant margarita beakers. I love that the drinks are free when you’re playing, and all you have to do is tip, and I especially love Matzoh soup at that place inside the New York. Most of all I love that when I’m incredibly tired, at the end of the weekend, I can hop a plane back to my rainy corner of the world and head to my apartment, where I can nap off my weekend in Vegas.

The only thing that could top Vegas, maybe, would be NOLA for NYE (or Mardi Gras) – I REALLY want to do that. RLYRLY!

<3 – Mister! I love Mister! He made curry and noodles last night for dinner, which was amazing. He’s taking my granny’s package to the post office this morning for me… He did laundry the other day, which was nice. He’s all-around amazing. *squee!* I’m about to mow down on that noodley-curry-stuff right now. Yum!

<3 – Getting things worked out at school. With a little sleuthing and persistence, I may have gotten my Accounting 201 grade fixed. I’ll know in a couple more days. *crosses fingers*

<3This article – I loooooove my mascara’ed lashes, but I do it because I like the way it looks, not because some crazy beauty standard tells us gals to wear it. I like the message AlreadyPretty is putting out there – you are beautiful as you are!

Okay. I’m hungry. That’s it for today.
